Heath Cake with Toffee Sauce

This was my birthday cake! My husband made this cake for me. You should understand something about my husband. He is a really good cook.

When he wants to be.

He has that instinct for cooking that I’m amazed at. I wish I could have that instinct. If I did we might not eat somethings that didn’t turn out so great. Like the dreaded tuna fish taco’s. Sorry allrecipes that one was disgusting.

If it wasn’t for my husband my sister would never have had a wedding cake. Really, this guy is awesome! Every year he makes a cake for me. I tell him what kind and then he takes it over the top. That’s just what he does.

I went onto Pinterest, found a bunch of cakes that looked fantastic then let him choose which one to make. He chose the heath cake. Which was alright with me because it was delicious!

My one wish for my birthday was to force go hiking with my family. Thankfully they all clambered into the car surprisingly didn’t scream all the way to the mountains and then scampered around the woods with me. We saw a spider with a blue bum and lots of butterflies that we ooed and awed over. My oldest found a stick that she claimed was a bow and as I type is now sitting in the corner of my home. I wanted to continue hiking until I lost all my worries in the hills but my kids had other ideas, one day I’ll force let them hike with me all day. After hiking we went out to eat at the local dive. Which happens to be one of our families favorite places. Giant hamburgers and ice cream can’t go wrong with that. We then were able to make our way home where we dumped the children into the tub. And then the baby decided to jump into the tub with her sisters, dressed and all. My husband finished the cake and then we all sang and ate. All in all it was a pretty fantastic day!

Heath Cake with Toffee Sauce

Chocolate Cake

1 devil’s food cake mix

3 eggs

1/2 cup plain yogurt

1/4 cup vegetable oil

3/4 cup milk

Preheat 350 degrees.

Combine all ingredients and pour into 8 inch pans bake around 25 minutes or until cake is brown on the top and cooked through the middle.

Toffee Sauce

3/4 cup corn syrup

1 1/4 cup brown sugar

7 Tablespoons butter

3/4 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan over high heat and boil for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring regularly.

Vanilla Buttercream

1/2 cup shortening

5-6 cups powder sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

6-8 tablespoons milk

Combine all ingredients and mix until frosting is at a desired constancy.

Take a layer of cake and spread frosting over it. Sprinkle crushed heath bars on top. Then pour 1/4 cup of toffee sauce over it.

Place second layer on top of the first layer and then frost cake. Sprinkle more crushed heath bars on top and around the bottom. Then pour more toffee sauce over the cake.
