I made this cake for the one time a year where I sit down and pretend to watch football, yep, Superbowl Sunday. I know all you football fans are right now thinking I’m some sort of heretic. I have never been a huge fan of the sport and thank heaven I married a man who shares my views. As I have no boys, I will never really have to learn or like football.
I would like to make a public announcement. Are you ready? I only went to one football game in high school. Yes, one.
My husband’s coworker went to my high school’s rival and every year when the big rival football game comes around he makes sure to mention something to my husband about how his former high school will crush my former high school and I could really care less.
Anyway, we were discussing my only going to one football game. I did go to a lot in college with a roommate who loves football. I do think she attempted to explain the game to me but I never caught on and really the rules are confusing to me. I only went to the games to watch the cute boys run around. I should point out that my college didn’t have a real football team just intramural teams.
Our friends have us over for Superbowl Sunday where we eat a lot of food, glance at football, watch commercials, and generally have a great time chatting.
I started off with a chocolate cake which I added oreo’s to the batter. Then made some ganache. Pipped a dam around the center and filled it with a thin layer of ganache.
Next I filled the middle with a cream cheese and oreo mixture. It was delicious.
I put the other layer on and poured ganache over the top of the cake. I love the way ganache makes a cake look instantly fancier. Here is another cake I did with ganache over the top.
Then I took crushed up oreo’s and put them on top.
In the end the cake not only looked good but the most important part was it tasted amazing.
Chocolate Oreo Cream Cheese Cake
1 chocolate box cake mix
1/2 cup plain low fat yogurt
1/4 cup oil
1 cup milk
1/2 cup crushed oreo cookies
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients and mix until everything is incorporated. Put batter in 9 inch pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted in middle.
Oreo Cream Cheese Filling:
1 8 oz. cream cheese softened
1 cup powder sugar
1/2 cup crushed oreo cookies
Combine all ingredients and put in middle of cake layers.
1/2 cup half and half (you can use cream if you want and then use 1 cup I went with the half and half because it’s cheaper)
1 cup chocolate (some people say not to use chocolate chips. I used a few and it seemed to work for me.)
Boil half and half for 2 minutes and then pour over chocolate. Stir until chocolate is melted and combined with half and half. If it isn’t thick enough you can put it in the refrigerator to cool and become thicker. Then drizzle over the top of the frosted cake.
